The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend

This ancient proverb dates back to the 4th century BC, and suggests that two parties can or should work together against a common enemy. Fast forward to the 2020 elections and it may also be the perfect description of The Lincoln Project (https://lincolnproject.us/) TLP was started by a group of conservative Republican Never Trumpers, and its mission is “to defeat President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box.” No, we are not likely to turn into conservative Republicans anytime soon, but we can certainly get on board with that!

TLP’s co-founders include Steve Schmidt and Rick Wilson, faces you’ll recognize from their frequent appearances on the cable news networks. Another co-founder, George Conway, however, is perhaps best known as being the husband of Kellyanne Conway – making him one-half of one of the most inexplicable marriages in memory (insert “smiley face”)

Frank Bruni, in his New York Times article, highlights the devastating effectiveness of TLP’s ads:

“There are dozens at this point, and the best are minute-long masterpieces of derision, miniature operas of contempt, designed to get into President Trump’s head and deep under his skin. That’s exactly where they’ve burrowed.”

Raise your hand if you’ve heard this before: “This is the most important election in our lifetime.” Now, raise your hand if you really believe that this is the most important election in our lifetime! Defeating Trump, and his Republican enablers, is essential to saving our democracy, if not our country. Now is the time to raise our voices, as well as our hands. We can’t be silent about, or let stand, the Trump administration’s gross incompetence, corruption and total lack of empathy. Be active. Be loud. Protest.

Looping back to “the enemy of my enemy is my friend,” it’s TLP’s mission to defeat Trump and Trumpism. Welcome to the team! We’ll take all the help we can get.
